How To Create Bootable CDs

|

There are many applications for bootable CDs - the most common being when undertaking large roll-outs and when using test rigs, where it is often useful to combine operating systems with boot and diagnostic diskettes to automate the process of setting up machines.

If you need to repeatedly test from clean installations it can save lots of time if you image a disk drive and put the image, along with the imagingsoftware, on a bootable CD. It can also be a timesaver to have frequently-used boot and diagnostic diskettes on CD, and it’s an easy way to work with PCs that do not have a floppy disk drive.

How To Dual-Boot Windows 2000

Getting any new operating system up and running can be a nerve-wracking affair, let alone installing it alongside an existing platform. And yet running a dual-boot configuration can hold certain advantages. This could be, for example, when users are unsure if their existing hardware and software will continue to work with the new operating system.

This is especially true when moving over to Windows 2000 because it is a one-way upgrade. In other words, Windows 2000 does not include an uninstall program.
Reverting to the previous version of Windows is not possible without
reinstalling

the old operating system and its applications. Thus a dual-boot configuration
can

be regarded as something of an insurance policy; an escape route back to
normality

should the upgrade not go as smoothly as one would hope. Just imagine, for

instance, installing Windows 2000 only to discover that the tape backup unit

refuses to work. With a dual-boot configuration, your users simply restart the

computer and load the alternative operating system. The solution is not ideal,
of

course, but it will suffice until the latest Windows 2000 drivers are acquired.

How much free Space should you maintain in your computer hard drive?

What’s the ideal free space to maintain on your computer’s hard drive?
Most experts has recommended that at least 20% free space of the hard drive should be kept free so that this extra space can be used to store temporary files by applications you run, defragmentation programs, or new files/programs that you add in to you computer.

You can consider upgrading your hard drive if the free space in your hard drive has reduced less than 20%. But all new computers come with huge hard drive (200 to 300 Gigabytes) don’t necessarily have to have 20% free space.
