|

Here are some hints to help you more efficently use rapidshare. Skipping waiting time and bypassing download limits are rapidshare hacks that everybody should know.

Rapidshare has been an excellent tool for sharing large files. Recently users have discovered ways of bypassing the download limits and skipping the waiting time. Here are a description of these methods. Rapidshare traces the users IP address to limit each user to a certain amount of downloading per day. To get around this, you need to show the rapidshare server a different IP address.

Here are some methods for doing this:

How to cahnge vBulletin logo?

After you install vBulletin first thing you want to do is change the default logo. This is important because it reflect your band of your site.
There is more than one way to change the default logo:
The first method is changing the logo path (image path) in vBulletin admin option. To do that you have to upload a custom logo to the server and make it web accessible. Then in admin panel go to Styles and Templates -> Style Manager. Select your style and choose StyleVars within Edit Fonts / Colors etc. section contained inside All Style Options drop down menu. You will then see Title Image setting under Image Path section where you can set the image located in the ‘header’ template, used as the main logo for your forum. Note that if you want to use relative path, the logo image must be located underneath the forum’s directory.

Create a Standard Robot Exclusion for your website

WWW Robots (also called wanderers or spiders) are programs that traverse many pages in the World Wide Web by recursively retrieving linked pages. For more information see the robots page (http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/robots.html).
In 1993 and 1994 there have been occasions where robots have visited WWW servers where they weren't welcome for various reasons. Sometimes these reasons were robot specific, e.g. certain robots swamped servers with rapid-fire requests, or retrieved the same files repeatedly. In other situations robots traversed parts of WWW servers that weren't suitable, e.g. very deep virtual trees, duplicated information, temporary information, or cgi-scripts with side-effects (such as voting).

Make Your Firefox Load Faster

|

You can slash Firefox's slow load time by compressing the DLLs and executables. There are many choices for compression but I suggest you use UPX which is free, efficient and time proven.

1. Download UPX from http://upx.sourceforge.net/#download

2. Unzip upx.exe into your Firefox installation folder which is normally C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox.

3. Make sure Firefox is not running then shell to a command prompt in the Firefox installation directory.

4. Type in the following command in a single line and hit return:

for %v in (*.exe *.dll components\*.dll plugins\*.dll) do upx "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\%v"

How To Install A Firewall

| |

Your new firewall needs to be physically locatednear the router that connects you to the Internet (or other service that you’re fire walling). The reason for this is that you will connect one of the interfaces on the firewall directly to the router’s Ethernet port via a cross-over cable. With no intervening hub, there is no way for any other machine to sit on the subnet between the router and the firewall. Connections Most firewalls need to know which interface is the external interface and which is internal. The one you connect to the router is the external interface, and it will have to be given an IP address from the block of addresses allocated to you by your Internet provider. The router’s Ethernet address will consume another address from this block. Later, after you’ve installed the firewall software, you will need to configure the firewall so that the router’s Ethernet address is its default route. Your firewall should have at least a second, and possibly a third, interface. The second one is used to connect to your corporate LAN, so you connect it to the network hub using a standard straight cable. The address that you assign to this interface should be on the same subnet as that used by all the other machines on your internal network. In most firewall installations, this means either that the network is running on a set of addresses as defined in RFC1918, or that the firewall is being used to hide the addresses that have “always been in use on the network” because it would take too long to renumber all the devices. In either case, the firewall needs to provide either proxy capability or network address translation (NAT) in order to hide these addresses from the Internet.

How To Create Bootable CDs

|

There are many applications for bootable CDs - the most common being when undertaking large roll-outs and when using test rigs, where it is often useful to combine operating systems with boot and diagnostic diskettes to automate the process of setting up machines.

If you need to repeatedly test from clean installations it can save lots of time if you image a disk drive and put the image, along with the imagingsoftware, on a bootable CD. It can also be a timesaver to have frequently-used boot and diagnostic diskettes on CD, and it’s an easy way to work with PCs that do not have a floppy disk drive.

How To Dual-Boot Windows 2000

How To Dual-Boot Windows 2000

Getting any new operating system up and running can be a nerve-wracking affair, let alone installing it alongside an existing platform. And yet running a dual-boot configuration can hold certain advantages. This could be, for example, when users are unsure if their existing hardware and software will continue to work with the new operating system.

This is especially true when moving over to Windows 2000 because it is a one-way upgrade. In other words, Windows 2000 does not include an uninstall program.
Reverting to the previous version of Windows is not possible without
reinstalling

the old operating system and its applications. Thus a dual-boot configuration
can

be regarded as something of an insurance policy; an escape route back to
normality

should the upgrade not go as smoothly as one would hope. Just imagine, for

instance, installing Windows 2000 only to discover that the tape backup unit

refuses to work. With a dual-boot configuration, your users simply restart the

computer and load the alternative operating system. The solution is not ideal,
of

course, but it will suffice until the latest Windows 2000 drivers are acquired.

How much free Space should you maintain in your computer hard drive ?

How much free Space should you maintain in your computer hard drive?

What’s the ideal free space to maintain on your computer’s hard drive?
Most experts has recommended that at least 20% free space of the hard drive should be kept free so that this extra space can be used to store temporary files by applications you run, defragmentation programs, or new files/programs that you add in to you computer.

You can consider upgrading your hard drive if the free space in your hard drive has reduced less than 20%. But all new computers come with huge hard drive (200 to 300 Gigabytes) don’t necessarily have to have 20% free space.
